A fire was reported at an abandoned factory building, formerly the Star Pin factory, on Canal Street in Shelton beginning approximately around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2020. It has been brought to our attention that the building contained asbestos which may pose a public health hazard to the immediate surrounding area. The CT Department of Environmental and Energy Protection (DEEP) has taken the lead on this investigation along with the Shelton Fire Department and State Department of Public Health.
Any resident with concerns regarding debris found on their property from the fire should contact DEEP at 860-729-4677 or Shelton Police Department (non-emergency) 203-924-1544.
Please be advised and share the following information:
- Do not touch debris. Samples will be gathered by DEEP or otherwise instructed by certified personnel.
